It is a sure fire hit to give a gift card to an adult. An adult loves a gift card for the choice and power that it provides them. The question on this blog post becomes, what about gift cards for children. Does any child under to years of age appreciate a gift card? My gut tells me that the parents of the child may really appreciate the gift, the kid will not be excited about a gift card.
The challenge with gifting a child with a gift card is that it takes out 100% the element of surprise, the fun of opening the gift. Adults do not mind, they actually could do with out the surprise.
The next question that follows is, at what age does the gift card become an ideal gift? Is it just after high school when kids are off to college or to live on their own? How about before that - would a freshman in high school prefer a gift card to Target or Nordstrom instead of a wrapped sweater that may not fit?
We don't have the answer but our gut tells us that the age for loving gift cards is just over 14 and is likely going to drop in the future as gift cards become more and more universal!
